Nelpura Heritage Homestay is a 150 year old heritage house located at the fabulous outskirt of Alappuzha, at the backwaters, popularly known as Kuttanad. Sits serene on the bank of a canal leading to river Pampa.

Vast stretches of paddy fields, and intricate network of navigable lake, lagoons, rivers and canals, fringed by coconut groves adds an ambience of unmatched freshness and serenity to this region. Dominated mostly by an agrarian population, Kuttanad is noted for its farming below sea level. This region is also frequented by a variety of migrating birds. The homestay

The Nelpura Heritage Homestay is a renovated structure adjoining an ancestral house. This small home stay has fully furnished modern rooms featuring traditional Kerala architecture and woodcarving. With its well-mown lawns, landscaped premises and the delightful mood of a family atmosphere and delicious food, Nelpura Heritage Homestay is what any quiet loving traveller dreams for. The Homestay enjoys all the benefits of a remote hamlet. At the same time it enjoys a proximity of the Alappuzha town by hardly 12 kms drive.

The homestay serves traditional Kerala homely food. The food is served at main dining hall at your convenient time. But it is also an experience to join the family for dinner.You can alos make and serve tea/coffee at the kitchenette in the heritage home.

Host

Chackochan is a professor at the Department of Pharmceutical Sciences in the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. His wife Salimma is also teacher in chemistry at the Higher Secondary level in Pulincunnoo, near to the house. Blessed with three children, two daughters Anjaly Raisa & Amitha Eliza and the youngest a son Arun Joseph. All are students at the school level. All hese family members make sure that you have a memorable holiday at their backwater homestay.

The Homestay has 3 Executive Deluxe rooms (Air Conditioned and Non Air conditioned), each with en-suite modernized bathrooms.

Activities (organised)

#Village Walks are opportunities to interact with local people and get to know Kerala rural life from close quarters. A visit to the 500-year-old temple in the village is an unforgettable experience.

#Country Boat Cruises through the Backwaters provide a striking spectacle of rustic life in Kuttanad. Guests can, as part of a special package, go for fishing expedition in the lake along with native fishermen. Cook and eat the prized catch will certainly be a thrilling experience.

#Canoe Rides along the shallow waterways of the village is exciting. Stop at places to talk with children.

#Visiting ancient Temples and Churches provides an opportunity to participate in the cultural activities of the village.

#Cycle ride along the canopied banks of the lake is a refreshing experience. Ride along the narrow strips running through the lush paddy fields provides an opportunity to feel the pulse of the Kerala countryside.

#Visit an old house of Brahmin Community. The family can talk on various topics like Culture, Agriculture, Marriages, Food, Ayurveda etc. depending on the interest of the guest.
